الأهوار مسطحات مائية واسعة يكسوها القصب والبردي في جنوب العراق، تتشكل حيث يقترب نهرا دجلة والفرات قبل أن يلتقيا. على ضفافها نشأت مدن السومريين الأولى مثل أور وأوروك وأريدو، وفيها عاش عرب الأهوار آلاف السنين بالطريقة نفسها: بيوت ومضايف من القصب، وتنقل بالمشحوف، وتربية الجاموس، وصيد السمك.The marshes are vast reed-covered waters in southern Iraq, formed where the Tigris and Euphrates draw close before they meet. The first Sumerian cities, Ur, Uruk and Eridu, rose on their edges, and the Marsh Arabs have lived here for thousands of years in much the same way: reed houses and mudhifs, travel by mashoof boat, water buffalo and fishing.
في عام 2016 أدرجت اليونسكو أهوار جنوب العراق والمدن السومرية القديمة معاً في قائمة التراث العالمي، لأنها تجمع الطبيعة والتاريخ في مكان واحد.In 2016 UNESCO inscribed the southern Iraqi marshes together with the ancient Sumerian cities on the World Heritage List, because they hold nature and history in one place.

تجلس في مضيف من القصب يشبه ما رسمه السومريون على أختامهم قبل آلاف السنين، وتزور زقورة أور في اليوم نفسه.Sit in a reed mudhif like the ones Sumerians carved on their seals thousands of years ago, and visit the Ziggurat of Ur the same day.
طبيعة لا تشبه غيرهاNature like nowhere else
شروق على الماء، وجاموس يسبح بين القصب، وطيور مهاجرة تتوقف في الأهوار في رحلتها كل عام.Sunrise on the water, buffalo swimming through reed, and migratory birds stopping here on their yearly journey.

بيت الأهوار البيئيThe Eco Ahwar House
تأسس بيت الأهوار البيئي عام 2020 في أهوار الناصرية بمحافظة ذي قار، ليكون أصغر فندق في العراق وأقربه إلى حياة الأهوار. سقوفه من حُصر القصب المنسوجة يدوياً، وأمامه مضيف من القصب على الماء.The Eco Ahwar House was founded in 2020 in the Nasiriyah marshes of Dhi Qar, as Iraq's smallest hotel and the one closest to marsh life. Its roofs are hand-woven reed mats, and a reed mudhif stands before it on the water.
بدأنا بفكرة بسيطة: أن يأتي الزائر إلى الأهوار فيجد مكاناً نظيفاً ومريحاً يبيت فيه، دون أن يفقد روح المكان. واليوم يستقبل البيت مئات الزوار من داخل العراق وخارجه.We began with a simple idea: visitors to the marshes should find a clean, comfortable place to stay without losing the spirit of the place. Today the house welcomes hundreds of guests from Iraq and abroad.

زقورة أورZiggurat of Ur
قرب الناصرية. معبد مدرّج بناه الملك السومري أور نمو قبل أكثر من أربعة آلاف سنة، ومعه المقبرة الملكية.Near Nasiriyah. A stepped temple built by the Sumerian king Ur-Nammu over four thousand years ago, beside the Royal Tombs.
أريدوEridu
في ذي قار. عدّها السومريون أقدم مدينة في العالم، وفيها معبد الإله إنكي.In Dhi Qar. The Sumerians counted it the oldest city in the world, home to the temple of Enki.
الوركاء (أوروك)Uruk (Al-Warka)
في محافظة المثنى المجاورة. مدينة كلكامش، ومن أوائل الأماكن التي ظهرت فيها الكتابة المسمارية.In neighbouring Muthanna. The city of Gilgamesh, and one of the first places where cuneiform writing appeared.
